Hi Shrijana and
Satish,
First let me apologize
for such a late feedback.
Thank you for planning a great trip for us
at such a short notice. Your logistics were
excellent and so were the vehicles you
provided us for both our trips to Nathu La
and Gurudongmar.The drivers both Mingma
Sherpa and 'Dilu' deserve special
mention, for they were without doubt the most
hard working people I have seen and that too
always with a smile!
You are a very lucky person to be born in
such a beautiful place. "Sikkim" we still
cant get over the sheer beauty of this
place. While Nathu La brought us close to
the sheer brutality of the forces of nature
our Armed Forces face everyday so that we
sleep peacefully, Gurudongmar and Zero Point
brought a sense of peace and calm to our
Mumbaikar's hectic lifestyles. As they say
the journey is more important than the
destination, every where that we went we
were spellbound by the sheer beauty your
state had to offer.
let me make special mention about the
'Lunch' you organized for us in one of the
homestay at Namthang called Shisa Hill ( I
hope the names are correct) on our way to
Lachen, which was a marvelous experience
both visually and for the warmth with which
we were served one of the most delicious
lunches I had in Sikkim!!
Once again thank you for organizing such a
wonderful trip for us. I promise to visit
you once more as I still got to visit west
Sikkim !!!
THANK YOU SHRIJANA, SATISH AND YOUR TEAM
!!!!!!!!!
Warm regards
susheel
ps: I did have a word with our friend in the
Army and he gave the impression that the
days when tourists are not allowed at Nathu
La are used for Army movements and roads
repairs etc. He also mentioned that if
anything about it can be done it will have
to be at the ministerial level.( I have
posted the photographs so that you recognize
the place at Namthang and also us!!!)
Back
in Bangalore.. ( safe and missing the
beautiful hills and mountains!). Thank you
so much for making it such a memorable trip.
It’s the best vacation I have had with my
family ever!
Gurudongmar was scary (with my
toddler). With my daughter
feeling kind of giddy as we
reached the lake. The driver (Prashant)
was awesome. He quickly got us
down to safety as soon as
possible.
Lachung,
I don’t have words to explain
it!! “Beautiful” is really an
understatement. The snow clad
mountains on one side and the
waterfalls on the other.. God
must have been in a really good
mood when we was working on
Lachung. We just got lucky to
see it.. and experience it.
Thank you
for organizing the beautiful
trip for us!
Feedback On Yak and Yeti
We sat out for a dream
tour of Sikkim and Yak and Yeti made it
possible for us. We visited places of
breathtaking beauty like Gurudomvar Lake,
Lachung, Dzongu hills etc and experienced
some once in a lifetime achievement bathing
a natural hot spring :). The hospitality of
Yak and Yeti in Gangtok and throughout our
stay in Sikkim has been very warm - they
really cared for us and listened to our
requests. Dzongu was an off beat destination
and they made it possible for us to tour
there - it was really incredible and also we
liked so much the natural habitat of the
Rumtek Jharna resort that we stayed in.
Overall experience with has been amazing on
this tour. We always would like to go back
to Sikkim and Yak and Yeti.
Hi
Satish, Just wanted to say that we had a great
trekking experience despite Sandra falling
ill and bad weather preventing my journey to
Goech La.
The organization was good, carried out
professionally and all done in a friendly
relaxed manner. Pushpa and his team did a
great job especially in helping Sandra.
I will recommend your company to everyone
who I talk to about our Sikkim trek.
Thanks
Rahul
Dear Satish,
I want to thanks you for very good trip
organizing. All taxi drivers come in time to
pick us up for the next point. Level and
location of all hotels and guesthouses was the
same, as I wanted. Jangpo Sherpa is very good
guide. We never have been sleeping 2 times in
one camp during the trek. Every time Jangpo
Sherpa suggested us new place, as we wanted.
Cook was so young, but so professional. He
suggested us many new testy Sikkim dishes.
Helpers and Yakman was very fast and always come
to new camp 1-2 hours before us to meet us with
hot tea or hot lemon juice. Thank you very much
for your trek command and give them Best
Regards. And the trek was most beautiful as I
have ever seen. Fantastic Rododendron forests
and snow peaks! Thank you very much one more
time !
Dear Satish
I am writing to thank you very very much for
arranging the most marvellous and truly
memorable visit to Sikkim for us.
I cannot praise highly enough your
organisational skills and flexibility.
We arrived in Gangtok a day later than planned
due to luggage problems - this did not seem to
bother you at all.
You quickly had us booked in to a very nice
hotel, and made us feel so very welcome in your
office. The
next day, you fixed up a jeep with a very good
driver to take us to Yuksom, and booked us into
the Tashi-Gang hotel, which we loved.
The team you arranged to take us trekking from
Yuksom to Goecha-La was fantastic - Puspa, our
guide, was unbelievably hard working and
efficient, with excellent English, and did
everything he could to make us welcome and
ensure that our holiday comfortable and well
organised. The cook, Mr Marri Sherpa, managed to
consistently produce wonderful food with minimal
equipment - his soup was especially good - and
the porters/cook boys Phupu Buchia, Phazong
Subba and Ranjit Bujel were always cheerful -
even when it rained - and worked very hard. We
were pleased that you advised us to use Dzo's to
carry the baggage - they seemed stronger than
the ponies used by other groups and more suited
to the job. Babu Bachia and Phedang cared for
them very well.
The schedule you organised, with shorter walks
on the first few days, allowed us to get
acclimatised and improve our fitness gradually ;
we both kept very well, and had no problems with
altitude sickness. We were delighted to get good
views from Dzongri in the early morning, and, a
few days later, to make the tough trek to the
edge of the Kanchenjunga glacier -Goecha-la
Pass, viewpoint 2 - to achieve our ultimate goal
- we saw glimpses of the beautiful mountain as
the cloud parted around it. It was so exciting
and rewarding. We also saw Blue Sheep, and
evidence of Snow Leopard, and lots of Himalayan
Birds - Puspa was very good at identifying them.
The tents you provided were waterproof and
comfortable. When it rained heavily the
afternoon after we had trekked to the pass,
Puspa very sensibly went down to a hut, so we
could all get warm and dry- we really
appreciated his local knowledge and sensible
decisions.
As we relaxed on the walk back, we enjoyed
seeing more beautiful flowers and birds - it was
really stunning.
After the trek, we could not believe our luck
when Puspa offered to spend more time with us
and act as our guide - you kindly arranged a
lovely hotel near Pelling and a Jeep with a good
driver, and he escorted us round local temples
and sightseeing - we appreciated them far more
with his input and saw things we would never
have found on our own. His friendliness,
consideration and courtesy made our holiday the
best ever.
This was really the trip of a lifetime for us -
I still find it hard to believe that you were
able to organise such an excellent trek and good
lodgings and sightseeing for us with just a few
e-mails - we are recommending Sikkim to all our
friends - getting there was quite challenging,
but the friendliness and welcome we got from
everyone we met made it absolutely worthwhile.
I will send you some photos when I have sorted
through them. If you have any clients who would
like a chat, I would be more than happy for you
to give them my e-mail.
We will keep in touch
Mt. Thingchinkhang, Sikkim,
India - 19,718'
October 2007
By: Tom Ritchie
__________________________________________________________________________
In October of 2007 CMC member Bruce Kocka organized an
expedition to climb Thingchinkhang, a 19,718’ (6010m)
peak in the Himalayan range that includes Kanchanjunga,
the world’s third highest peak. Thingchinkhang,
located in Sikkim , India , had never been climbed by an
American. Bruce was joined by CMC member Tom Ritchie and
the late Ric DeVan on the joint Indian/American
expedition. The slide show starts with a picture of the
one mile vertical south face of Thingchinkhang, followed
by a jeep ride to Yuksam in Sikkim, a 4 day trek to
establish base camp at 14,200’, advance base camp at
16,400’, camp 1 at 17,400’, the climb to the summit,
and ends with the American climbers Tom, Ric and Bruce
relaxing at 10,000’ after their successful summit.
